It's better to link into them from a photo site like (photobucket,Flickr,) by posting the full size IMG code. This site has a auto resizer that makes them smaller.

    Adam,

Check out this Sound Practices article about Altec 909s, 515-8Gs and tractrix horns.

Re: 909-8A: 400Hz tractrix horn: the exemplar

    hi jeff,

thanks for the link - actually, the exemplar is
my original inspiration for converting the A700's
    - had wondered about getting in touch with the
designers but thought i should come and meet
with the altec fans and consult.

very pleased to make your acquaintance -
what a fantastic looking beast the exemplar is,

    cheers,

    a

Yeah, forget the Exemplar designers...talk to Jeff instead of those jokers.

Re: 909-8A: 400Hz tractrix horn: wanted: forum with GSOH

    hi all,

glad there is atmosphere of bonhomie
round the forum - certainly better than
    a hairsplitting contest...

news here: have to move the rig from
its warehouse lodging to a friends
double garage - turntables there though
    - haven't treated them to vinyl yet so
    something to look forward to,

    warm regards,

    a

    Re: 299-8A vs 909-8A

    hi all,

rig in new location - will load pictures to my picasa page
and post link; my thread at audio heritage has pictures
of rapid prototyper output from the machine at tech -
    pretty good resolution objects.

also, my source for the A700's had a rummage and has
turned up 299-8A's as an alternative to the 909's....

    any thoughts?

    warm regards,

    a

    Grab the 299s ( says a guy who loves the natural mid-range of the 288-8K ) .

    FYI, with a change of diaphragms ( from GPA ), 299s become 288s .

    hi all,

    thanks earl,

still coming to grips with the altec nomenclature - units in
question are 299-8A's and AT's. chap actually has 8 of them!

they've been in storage for a while and there is some
minor corrosion on the motor exterior - will grab a photo
next time i'm out his way.

    cheers,
